Entry #2 Why Am I Still Here?

For those of you who don't know I work at this miserable place called Starbucks. Whatever they told you about Starbucks was a lie!!! Especially if was a great comment like ," This place is so relaxing and great to work at"...... NOT! I haven't even been here more than a year and I want to rip my hair out. Now that I am writing this I am realizing how truly miserable I AM and how depressing this actually sounds. Ouch!

Of course when you look at the picture about it looks so quiet and peaceful and the thought of great coffee just drags you in. But as an associate it makes me want to run in the opposite direction. The management at my location is a bad as spoiled milk. My manager has no communication skills what so ever and it seems like the only time he addresses any of us is always about something negative! He never ever compliments us on something we do well. I guess that's how it is when you work with a bitter thirty something year old manager like mine. I wish I could just go up to him and tell him, " Just because your home situation is miserable doesn't mean you have to bring it to work with you. Maybe put a smile on your face from time to time it'll make you look younger and not so bitter!". I can only wish!

I am sure many of you are wondering why I am still working here! Well, while I am still attending school this is really the only places that's close and that really fits my schedule. Not to mention I do get great health benefits from this crap hole. This is that one job that you just have to deal with for a few more years and than you can kick it to the curb once your career is set in motion. God, I cannot wait to get my bachelors in education and actually enjoy my job for once! Until than I am stuck working for this tall (short) bitter COLD cup of coffee (manager)!

  1. Ever since I was younger I wanted to work at Starbucks because everyone looks like they absolutely love their job. I might never work there but I won't ever stop going to Starbucks.

  2. There is a saying - employees don’t leave companies, they leave managers. I quit my job as a chef in a five star restaurant due to a terrible manager and worked in a small cafe in Scottsdale under a great manager. One bad manager can make you hate an entire corporation. I hope you get a better manager soon.

    1. I agree, this is so true. I haven't even been with this company for a year and I cannot believe how many people have come and gone. Some have quit and some have transferred to café stores that are under better management. You would think that Starbucks would encourage kindness and customer service but really it's about speed and sales. That's it. Of course they care if they get terrible reviews. Whenever we get one I swear my manager turns into the devil. Hahahaha........ I just keep telling myself, " two more years Binasa, two more years, and I can quit". Pray that I can make it that long.

  3. Wow! I would have never guessed that working for a place that smells so good would be so terrible. I once had an interview for Starbucks when I was 16 and of course I didn't get hired because they said, "Sorry, but you are not perky enough". Well, the bright side is, in a couple years we will be teaching our classes and you will look back on these days and laugh at that jerk because he will still be stuck there and you will be better off. Hang in there!!

    1. Frankie, you have no idea how excited I am to be starting my Bachelors degree this coming fall. Just two more years and we're done. I never thought that a company with such a relaxing appeal can be so stressful. I know that teaching won't be the easiest thing to do but anything is better than waking up at three in the morning to be here by four and open. Yup, our hours just changed to four in the morning. Who really gets up and four in the morning and wants coffee? I cannot believe they said you weren't perky enough. You have no idea how many boring people we have that work with us, that aren't even perky. Shoot some days I'm not perky.

  4. Binasa--Your blog has started of (again!) pretty well. You have some good content presented, and good visual appeal. Make sure to keep digging into your analysis and discussion. Connect your personal topics to people who don't know you...and be thoughtful of your rhetoric. Also, make sure to edit more carefully.
